Urgent Notice
Cyanobacteria alert for the north end of Lake Winnisquam today, July 20th. This bloom was observed along the western shore of the lake near the loon sanctuary early this morning and appeared as a grayish film or scum on the water. WWN collected a sample of the bloom which confirmed the presence of Cyanobacteria with concentrations close to but not currently exceeding the state limit of 70,000 cell/mL for an advisory. The colonies were observed to be degrading (dying off) which may mean that this bloom is on its way out, but we just don't know.
People and pets should not swim in these infected waters so please stay away. If you visit these areas you risk spreading to other parts of the lake
